With our desire for a single, recognizable, artisanal look for all our farm products, we found exactly what we were looking for in the name Karakter. It's an ode to craftsmanship, hard work, and love for people, animals, and the land.
Where does the name Karakterkaas come from?
Character cheeses carry not only flavor but also a story. The story of farmers who work day in and day out on their dairy farms with dedication and perseverance. For these farmers, their profession isn't a nine-to-five job; it's a 24/7 life. And when they choose to process their own milk into cheese, it demands something special. It demands "Character."
That is why every Karakter cheese states:
Caring for the cows, caring for the land.
The care for the cheeses, made by hand.
A passion, a life, a hard-working existence.
That must be about farmers with character.
A versatile brand
Many of our Character Cheeses originate in Giessenburg and are expertly crafted by the Slob family. These herb cheeses carry two brands: Cheese from Farmer Slob and Karakter. This combination reinforces each other, rather than being mutually exclusive. The values that the Karakter brand embodies align seamlessly with the artisanal methods and passion of these cheesemakers.
