Family of Eijk
Meet Adrie
In the village of Vlist, nestled in the beautiful Krimpenerwaard region, Adrie van Eijk runs the cheese dairy with Annelies and their son Lucas. Here, he makes authentic farm cheese from the milk of his 60 cows: pure, raw milk, and full of character!
It started with Adrie's father
"Come to the market in Bodegraven if you want cheese," Adrie's father said to Kees Remijn in 1995. No sooner said than done. Kees went to the market. He wasn't the only one there who wanted Van Eijk's cheese. "They saw me coming in my white coat (something all the traders wore back then). There were already four or five regular traders there, and then I joined them," says Kees Remijn.
Fortunately, his efforts were not in vain: the collaboration with the Van Eijk family still exists, to the full satisfaction of both parties.
20 kilos of cheeses
The cheese factory operates at full capacity four days a week. Adrie and Annelies make cheese using traditional methods, without additives. The flavor is developed in traditional wooden barrels. The cheeses weigh twenty kilos and have already won several Cum Laude awards!
Homemade cheese is the tastiest
"Adrie is his own biggest customer," says Peter Verweij, the commercial director of Kaashandel Remijn. "He makes cheese from all his milk, and all the cheeses are sold to us. He then buys back some of his own cheese to sell in his shop." Now that's what we call a farmer who REALLY stands behind his own product!
